Supports the Pharmacist's activities, including order processing, preparation of general and specialty medication (Chemotherapy, TPN and Cardiac Preps) IV solutions, syringes, admixtures and/or non- IV doses. Processing floor stock orders, maintaining medication inventories, answering the phones, providing customer support, remove outdated medications and medication deliveries for the Inpatient Pharmacy.
Minimum Job Requirements
Graduate of an approved pharmacy certification course
High School education or equivalent
Registered in the State of Florida as a Pharmacy Technician
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Answers the phone and directs calls as appropriate using excellent customer service.
Delivers medications in a timely manner to the designated Nursing Units and picks up returned medications
Completes periodic area inspections, in a timely manner, as assigned for removal of outdated medications prior to expiration of medication
Accurately report barcodes required into designated computer system when receiving deliveries from vendors, stock the store room and maintain store room organized.
Pre- Pack medications purchased in bulk for individual patient use accurately and efficiently.
Accurately and efficiently prepares standardized doses of medication including unit dose and cassette fill for patient use
Prepares specified general departmental IV admixtures syringes and large volume IV medications accurately and efficiently using proper USP 797 aseptic technique.
Demonstrates working knowledge and advanced practice skills related to preparation of Parenteral Nutrition (PN), Chemotherapy and Cardiovascular Trays.
Processes inpatient orders by entering the patient information and medication order information into the designated computer system, accurately and timely.
Accurately prepares patient labels, weighs, counts or measuring appropriate medication product or ingredients and places the finished product in a suitable container for pharmacist check.
Responsible for responding to alerts and maintaining the automated dispensing machines and other routine equipment in the Pharmacy and in the hospital.
Three year experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred
General and Specialty (Chemotherapy, TPN and Cardiac I.V) admixture preparation experience or trained for inpatient pharmacy preferred
Ability to comprehend and analyze information, knowledge of percentage and basic math calculations.
Ability to coordinate the sequence of a process.
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to relate cooperatively, courteously and constructively with patients, nursing, personnel, co-workers, physicians, etc
Knowledge of Metric system of measurement
Knowledge and skills medication preparation and dispensing for an outpatient pharmacy
Knowledge of generic and brand medication names.
Knowledge and skills in IV admixture and Unit Dose medication preparation for inpatient pharmacy or bulk dispensing for outpatient pharmacy preferred
